Anytime Fitness Savvy Survivor XI - December 2011

One of the best seasons of survivor yet with record breaking registrations of over 500. It was another amazing week that had you tested physically, mentally and emotionally. In the end the pain was worth it & collectively we have raised over $25,000.00.

Together we really do have the power to make a difference and for our chiefs and operations team it was an absolute pleasure being surrounded by such positive passionate people all week.

We have already received great feedback about the excellent sessions each day as well as the great fun & supportive atmosphere.

Our chosen charity this season was The Melanoma Institute Australia. Melanoma Institute Australia is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to preventing and curing melanoma through innovative, world-class research, treatment and education programs. Melanoma Institute Australia is based in the Poche Centre, the world’s largest melanoma research and treatment centre, which was made possible by the generosity of Greg Poche.

Melanoma Institute Australia relies on the generosity of individuals, organisations and government funding to continue its ground breaking work into this potentially devastating cancer.

100 100’s - November 2011

This fundraising event is put on by BaiMed Physio & raises funds for the local charity Greenacres & House with no Steps.

Savvy had a team of 12 runners as well as many other Savvys running in corporate teams. Participants run 100metres 100 times in 100 minutes. It was a hot Saturday morning but that didn't deter the Savvy's from turning up at the Kerryn McCann Stadium to do their bit for charity.

Move for Mark - November 2011

Mark Scott, well known local athlete was involved in a very serious accident whilst training on Saturday the 18th of June. We are hoping that the motivation and determination that makes him a great athlete and coach will shine through and help him to recover.

On November 13th 2011 over 70 Savvies attended a special event at Stuart Park, North Wollongong to help support & raise funds to assist with Marks care.

It was a beautiful day with over 2000 locals in attendance helping to support a cause close to the hearts of many.

An emotionally charged fun run bringing the community together to help aid Marks recovery.

Sydney Running Festival - September 2011

The Sydney Running Festival offers a variety of races all starting over the harbour bridge & taking in spectacular views of Sydney.

The Savvies love a running festival! A large group travelled up to run the 9km event & we also had a few doing 21k & a marathoner! The day was spectacular; however the unexpected heat took its toll on a few of our runners. Everyone made it to the finish line happy with their efforts.

Once again the day was made all the better due to the amazing team spirit within the Savvy members!

Riley had a great day entering his second Sydney Running festival…….I’m not sure how long he will be allowed to do it in the pram though!

City2Surf - August 2011

City2Surf is the largest running event world wide with over 80,000 entrants. This is a fantastic iconic event to be a part of! The crowds are huge, but that’s part of the buzz & the views running into Bondi are spectacular. Well worth the effort!

The Savvy’s have done a lot of running this year & so a smaller group of 24 of us travelled up in a mini bus & joined others that had made their own way up. The day started with a torrential down pour having a few of us question the ‘if it rains we train’ mantra!

Right before the start gun the rain stopped & we had near perfect  running conditions over to Bondi. Some of us running for the first time, others with goals to beat, overall it was a successful day for everyone & we all made it home just after lunch!

Make sure you join us next year.

Peoplecare Savvy Survivor X - July 2011

This season Savvy teamed up with Dry July to raise funds for Wollongong Hospitals services for Cancer Care patients. We also used the funds raised from registrations to help one of our members who has been diagnosed with cancer and will need funds for the management of this.

This very special person trained with Savvy since 2007 and only stopped when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since recovering from breast cancer she returned to training. Only a few weeks ago due to feeling pain in her back was she now been told she has incurable bone cancer.

They also found it had moved to her brain but they were able to successfully operate on this area. This wonderful lady has a wonderful husband who he himself has survived cancer and they have two very young children. This lady is a vibrant positive person who has amazing strength of character and plans to take this on and live life to the fullest. The funds can assist with the drug required to help stop the cancer from spreading and at least take a small amount of financial stress out of the equation.

We have not told this family that we plan to give them these funds as yet but plan to present it at the end of the week and share this special moment with you all. Together we have the power to at least help in some small way and for any of our members who are faced with hardship you can trust that Savvy will be there to support you in any way possible!

Total funds raised was $21,844.00

CONGRATULATIONS TO 1st place - The Aston Lee Blue Tribe! The Yellows led for a good part of the week but it was the Blues that were unstoppable and eventually unbeatable this season. The Blues were definitely athletic and high performers taking out the most amount of 1st places. The Blue tribe now have 4 wins under their belt and are planning to take on a 5th for summer.
