Eat Consciously

Eating consciously can help you stay in control. Conscious eating is about really enjoying your food, know what you put in, where it comes from and making a decision on whether or not your body truly needs it at that point of time. Below are some tips to help you eat more consciously and therefore make better choices when it comes to food.

Are you really hungry?

Knowing the difference between hunger and boredom is important to avoid overeating. Know your true hunger signs which might differ from person to person. When you are hungry you might feel really empty in the stomach, lack concentration or a rumble in the tummy. If this is happening then ask yourself when the last time you ate was and make a decision on whether it is time for food. You want to avoid waiting to long and getting to the point where you become starving as you might end up reaching for the first thing you can get your hands and generally if you can get it quickly it's most likely not the best for you hence the term 'fast food'.

Create Atmosphere

Create an atmoshpere where you can enjoy your food. Come away from your desk at work, set up dinner purposefully to sit relax and enjoy each mouthful.

Give your body time to register the meal. Eat slowly and wait at least fifteen minutes before reaching for seconds. It takes that long for your stomach to signal your brain that it is full.

Savor your food.

Even if you're caught up in conversation with others, be sure to appreciate the textures, flavors, and aromas of your food.

Know where it comes from.

Being more in tune with your food, knowing where it comes from and how it was produced will influence what and how much you eat.

Know what your are putting in your mouth and make an informed decision on whether you should be eating it.

Eat consciously and you will make the right choices.
